“Grandmother’s Pie” Soy Candle

You ask the minibus driver to stop — there is Grandma’s house, just ahead. You step into the yard and the dog starts barking again; he has forgotten you since the last holidays. Grandma is already coming out of the summer kitchen, delighted to see you.

You call out, “Hi!” and she answers with an even longer “Hiiiii!” She hugs and kisses you, beaming, and calls you inside. After a few questions — “How was the journey?” and “What’s new?” — she suddenly falls silent, her eyes wide. The child needs feeding immediately! She rushes to bring everything she has cooked to the table.

You could smell the pastries baking in the summer kitchen’s oven from the yard. Now they are on the table, covered with a towel. The scent of cherries is intoxicating. You soak up the atmosphere.

You take a little pie, sit on the bench outside the kitchen, and watch Grandma pour water for the geese. They gather around, stretching their long necks and drinking eagerly, as if there might not be enough.

“Well, are the pies good?” she asks. You simply nod and keep eating.
